JAZZ, FASHION, CULTURE & FINE DINING TAKE CENTRESTAGE THIS APRIL AS KIRK WHALUM ARRIVES IN LAGOS TO CELEBRATE THE FIFTH INTERNATIONAL JAZZ DAY!Sweet Sound African Promotions, the producers of Native & Vogue International Fashion Week and Phillips Consulting proudly presents Runway Jazz, a harmonic fusion of the classy worlds of Jazz, Fashion and Fine Dining on April 29 and 30, 2016, in recognition of UNESCO's International Jazz Day.
Set to host for the first time ever in Lagos, Grammy Award-winning Kirk Whalum and his amazing band, the event will also feature Cobhams, Sweet Sound, a fast rising 7 man Jazz band, Naija's soul sister and songstress, Yinka Davies, and more.
Runway Jazz is infused with an edgy fashion show, cleverly weaving the timeless ages of Fashion and Jazz music, which will feature designers known for their glitz and glamour such as Frank Osodi. In the words of Irina Bokova, UNESCO Director-General,
"Jazz makes the most of the world's diversity, effortlessly crossing borders and bringing people together." Speaking on the event, promoter Afolabi Oke says, "Runway Jazz is beyond a show.
It is an experience that defines the impact of music on everyday life and allows us to express our culture in such a way that we encourage peace and unity, first within ourselves as a people, and then between Nigeria and the rest of the world.
It speaks to the minds of artistes to challenge and channel their creativity into a great cause."With its core values deeply rooted in the positive principles of the International Jazz Day, Runway Jazz is also designed to highlight our proudly Nigerian (and African) culture, talents and products to all around the world and in so doing recognise some of Nigeria's greatest - Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, Ebenezer Obey, Victor Olaiya, and Victor Uwaifo - whose achievements on Africa's music landscape both home and abroad have earned them the title of exemplary ambassadors of Nigerian Music and symbols of our cultural heritage.
